Read a funnel and find where people drop off, step by step

You have your funnel. Now let's read it: how many enter, how many finish, and at which step they leave.

  1. 1Entered, Completed, and Total conversion

In Funnels, click the funnel's name to open it.

Up top are three numbers: Entered, who did the first step; Completed, who reached the last; and the Total conversion between them.

  2. 2Visitors per step

The Visitors per step chart shows how the funnel narrows. Hover over a bar to see the exact number.

  3. 3Step breakdown: from previous, from start, and drop-off

In the Step breakdown, From previous compares each step with the one before; From start, with the entry.

Drop-off is what's lost from the previous step. The biggest leak here is between cart and purchase: six out of ten.

  4. 4Edit the steps without losing the funnel

To adjust it, click Edit. You can rename steps, change the window, or add steps.

Click Save changes. The funnel keeps its link and its numbers recalculate.

Entered, total conversion, and each step's drop-off: now you know where to improve.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between From previous and From start?

From previous compares each step's visitors with the step before it; From start compares them with the entry, the funnel's first step.

What does a step's drop-off mean?

It's the percentage of visitors lost compared to the previous step. The step with the highest drop-off is the funnel's biggest leak.

Do I lose the funnel if I edit its steps?

No. With Edit you can rename steps, change the window, or add steps; when you save, the funnel keeps its link and its numbers are recalculated automatically.
